Bavarian Inspired Beers Cloudy Lemon Lager and Hefeweizen from Nirvana Brewery

Why we love Bavarian Beers

If you know Nirvana, then you know that we have a soft spot for German beer. Indeed some of our all-time favourite (and best selling) beers are from our Bavarian range. This includes our Helles Lager, Hefeweizen and Cloudy Lemon Lager, all of which are Bavarian-inspired brews. If you’ve tasted any of these beers, you’ll probably quite quickly see why we love them. But why Bavarian beers specifically? Well, allow us to explain...

Why Bavarian Beer?

A look at our about us page details why Nirvana Brewery started and the journey it took to get here. In this process one of our founders, Becky and her brother Joe toured around Germany sampling their very best alcohol-free beers and meeting with expert brewers at century-old breweries, giving her the knowledge and inspiration she needed to start up Nirvana Brewery.

During this travelling, it was the alcohol-free Bavarian beers that really hit the spot. She knew that this style of beer would instantly be a big hit in the UK, which is why our Bavarian Lager was one of the first of our products the hit the shelves!

Bavarian style beers are rich and malty, with particular focus on the malt flavour. This makes them perfect for alcohol-free versions, as the rich flavour is resilient to the de-alcoholisation process, leaving a full body and authentic beer taste.

What is Bavarian Beer and how is it different from other German Beers?

For those of you who didn’t know, or are curious, Bavaria is a beautiful region in modern day Germany, located in the south-east, bordering Austria and the Czech Republic. It’s the largest federal state in Germany and houses the city of Munich. Think scenic mountains, old fashioned buildings and cliched lederhosen!

Beer is deeply imbedded in the Bavarian traditions and festivals, such as Oktoberfest (It’s where it all began!). But, most importantly, Bavarian beer has a dedication to brewing excellence, in part thanks to the old German law of Reinheitsgebot. This means that beer is still mostly produced through traditional means and with traditional ingredients, yes, even our Alcohol-free versions! Whilst all beer in Germany is made according to these rules, Bavaria really is the epicentre of German brewing history.

The techniques used have been perfected over centuries, meaning you’re literally tasting history with every sip.

What makes Bavarian Beer special?

Alongside the traditional brewing techniques and rich and unique flavours, there is also a diverse range of Beer styles.

We’ve dipped our toes into the Weissbeir (Wheat beer) with our Traditional Hefeweizen, waded in with our "Radler” style Cloudy Lemon Lager, and are completely swimming in our flagship Helles Lager! There are still so many different styles to experiment with, and we hope you’ll join us on this Bavarian journey.
